The calculator uses the standard serving approach for kidney beans: every nutrition figure is based on a 100-gram portion of the form you select. To convert that to an ounce basis, the calculator multiplies by 28.3495 (the number of grams in one ounce) and divides by 100:

Calories per ounce = (kcal per 100 g × 28.3495) ÷ 100

If you enter a weight in ounces, the total is simply calories per ounce times the number of ounces. If you enter grams, the weight is first converted to ounces using the same 28.3495 factor. Dried kidney beans are dense: a cup of dry beans weighs about 190 g (roughly 6.7 oz) and contains just under 630 kcal. During soaking and boiling, beans absorb roughly two to three times their weight in water. Because water contributes zero calories, the same dry batch can become about two and a half cups of cooked beans weighing around 430 g (15 oz) while still containing the same total calories. That’s why 100 g of raw beans has 333 kcal but 100 g of boiled beans has only 127 kcal. You aren’t burning calories by cooking — you’re just adding water weight to each bean.

Food safety: Never eat raw or undercooked kidney beans. They contain a naturally occurring lectin called phytohaemagglutinin that can cause severe stomach upset.
