How the Calculation Works
The tool uses a simple proportional formula. If you enter the amount in ounces, it is first converted to grams using 1 oz = 28.3495 g. Then the iron is calculated from the selected food's per-100 g value.
Iron (mg) = (iron per 100 g ÷ 100) × weight in grams × servings
For example, a 40 g bar of 70–85% dark chocolate contains 11.9 mg per 100 g, so one bar provides 4.76 mg. Two servings would provide 9.52 mg, which is 52.9% of an 18 mg target.
